Laying to Rest and Remembering
On September 19th, at 12:00 PM, at the Friedhof Seckenheim, please join the close circle of me, my family, David’s children, Andraya and Andrew, and a few dear friends as we bury the ashes of my beloved husband,
David Gillen
at a resting place we decided together – where I, too, – will one day rest in peace, by his side.
Friday, September 19, 2025 — 12:00 PM
Interment Ceremony
Friedhof Seckenheim
Krautgartenweg 30, 68239 Mannheim
The ceremony will be held in German and followed by a lunch at Badischer Hof, Vinothek, Seckenheim.
Additional Gatherings
I am currently planning a few informal gatherings before and after the interment. Program subject to change and weather conditions.
Thursday, September 18 — early evening: Welcome drinks by the Rhine (Mannheim), where David could watch the cargo ships for hours — a relaxed chance to gather and greet one another over Flammkuchen and popcorn.
Friday, September 19 — afternoon: After the interment and lunch, we will take the tram – also something David’s urban transportation heart was always captivated with – to stretch our legs with a walk through the Luisenpark.
Friday, September 19 — evening: Informal gathering at my parents’ home (Mannheim). I am currently thinking of ordering some sushi platters – David loved sushi.
Saturday morning: Free time to rest or explore — suggestions include Heidelberg Castle, the historic town of Ladenburg (where the Romans built part of their limes frontier fortifications), or shopping in Mannheim’s squares (Die Planken).
Saturday, September 20 — afternoon: Tour of Schwetzingen Palace and Gardens, in the town that always made me laugh when David tried to pronounce it. Afterwards we can share a bite together.
Sunday morning: For those departing later, you are welcome to join me for a quiet visit to David’s grave.
